Lucille (Turel) Olaf

Lucille (Turel) Olaf, 90, Superior resident, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. She was born on September 19, 1925 in Superior and was a lifelong resident.

After graduating from Central High School in 1943, Lucy held various clerical positions and was employed by Central Coop Wholesale and the Wisconsin Grain Bureau and Presidents.

Lucy had a love for life and embraced it to the fullest. In earlier days she enjoyed riding her moped and seeking out a good garage sale which did not diminish with age.

She was a member of the Kosciuszko Ladies Auxiliary Federation and also a proud member of the Drum and Bugle Corps for many years and loved to perform in parades. Lucy also volunteered many years sharing her musical talent at churches, gatherings and enjoyed playing the organ to entertain the residents at St. Francis Nursing Home where she eventually became a resident herself for a brief period of time. What was most dear to her heart was spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ted of 48 years, her two daughters Bernadette (Rick) Larson and JoAnn Olaf, her parents, Ben and Sarahfinah Turel, sister Phyllis Muszkiewicz and brothers Stanley, Edward and Walter Turel.

She is survived by and will be missed by David (Zelda) of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and James of Lake Nebagamon, WI; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior, with a scripture service scheduled for 6:45 PM.

Visitation will resume at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 4, 2016 and continue until the 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2316 E. 4th Street with Rev. Fr. Joe Muszkiewicz as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.
