Mable Gunski

December 13, 1918 — November 12, 2009

Mable Gunski, 90, lifelong Superior resident, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009 in the Golden Living Center, Superior. She was born on December 13, 1918 to Valentine and Fannie (Munch) Van Holbeck.
Mable was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and its Altar Society, St. Anthony's Rug Ladies, President of the East End Senior Citizens Center and the Navy Mothers Club. She loved to participate in all kinds of craft work and was well known as a wonderful cook and homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was known for organizing, what is affectionately remembered as "Mable's Tours".
She had been employed as a custodial engineer for Upper Lakes Foods and enjoyed serving the Sorensen family and many other families she served throughout the years.
Mable is survived by two daughters, Diane (Tom) Brennan, Iron River, WI, Joann (Eugene) Blomfelt, Superior; one son, Daniel F. (Noreen) Gunski, Duluth; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Van Holbeck, Superior, Marlys Gunski, Superior and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel; one son Michael Gunski; one sister, Margaret Breemeersch and two brothers, Francis and Frederick Van Holbeck.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 14, 2009 until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Don Kania will be celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mable's family would like to thank the staff at the Golden Living Center for their kind, compassionate care of Mable during her stay.
