Marcelle Maureen Williams

September 8, 1942 — July 2, 2010

Marcelle Maureen Williams, 67, Minneapolis, died Friday, July 2, 2010 in her home.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1942 in Superior, Wisconsin to Harry R. and Velma (Hakkila) Doby.

She was a 1960 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Mount Pleasant, Michigan and a 1972 graduate of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

She was a working artist during her entire career doing book design, small press design, edited newspapers and magazines and was an illustrator. She was also a published author of fiction, poetry and prose.

During the 1970's, she was the founding member and Executive Director of Woman’s Work Project in Minneapolis, which was an arts research project.

During the 1990's, she was editor of the International Bad Finn newsletter. Marcelle was a fabulous cook.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harry R. Doby.

She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Lawrence "Larry"; her mother, Velma Doby of Iron River, Wisconsin; two sons, Samuel "Zack" (Andrea) Williams and Matthew (Sabine Torch) Williams, both of Minneapolis; and grandchildren, Gwendolyn, Isabella, Matthias and a grandson to be born soon.

Visitation will be Monday, July 5, from 5-7 PM in Lenroot-
Maetzold Funeral Home, Superior WI. Visitation continues Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the 1:00 PM service in Brule Presbyterian Church. Gerry Henkel will officiate the service.

Burial will be in Everrest Cemetery, Waino, Wisconsin.

Pallbearers for the service will be Matthew Williams, Zack Williams, Rodney Lehto, Daryl Lehto, Stuart Lehto and Danny Hakkila.
