Margareta "Mait" Edstrom

Margareta “Mait” Edstrom, 86, Superior, died Monday, September 27, 2010 in the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center, Superior, WI. She was born on March 22, 1924 in Avesta, Sweden in the province of Dalarna to Edit and Johan Borgstrom.

At eighteen years of age, she was a volunteer soldier in the Swedish Army and worked various jobs in Sweden before moving to the United States.

In 1948, she married Karl Gustav Edstrom in New York City and enjoyed fifty-six years of marriage until Karl’s death in 2005.

Through Karl’s work as an engineer, Margareta and Karl spent the early years of their marriage traveling the word. They lived in a variety of countries including Finland, China, Romania, Yugoslavia, Columbia, Mexico, England and South Africa.

In 1964 Margareta and Karl moved to Superior, WI where Karl was assigned as chief engineer for Superior Fiber Products.
Margareta and Karl enjoyed walking and spent many hours walking to and from the park in Billings Park. Of all the places that Margareta had lived thru out the world, she often said that her home and neighborhood on St. Albans Road in Superior was her favorite place to live.

While in Superior, Margareta enjoyed hobbies as sewing, knitting and painting.
She enjoyed animals, having pet dogs for many years, and never turning away stray animals.

She studied at the Phalman Brothers Institute of Commerce in 1960 and enrolled through correspondence in the Famous Artists School in Westport, CT.

Margareta is survived by one brother, Sven-Erik Schultzberg, Bromma, Sweden and two sisters-in-law, Gulli Hendrikson, Holmsund, Sweden and Gurli Edstrom, Skeleftea, Sweden and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

A celebration of Margareta’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center with visitation one half hour prior. John Maynard and Robert Tchop will co-officiate.
