Marian E. Erickson

February 11, 1916 — June 13, 2016

Marian Elizabeth Erickson, age 100, a resident of United Pioneer Home in Luck, WI, died Monday, June 13, 2016. She was born in Madison, New Jersey on February 11, 1916 to the Reverend Joseph and Myrtle Butler. She graduated from high school in Sauk Center, MN and Hamline University in 1937 with her degree in social work.

Marian was a social worker for the St. Louis County Welfare Department in Duluth, MN serving the blind community. Marian’s work history also included assisting with the U.S. Census and serving as a hostess for the former Cronstroms Supper Club in Superior.

She wed Howard Erickson of Duluth in 1939 and moved to Superior, WI. She served on the PTA and was a Girl Scout leader. She volunteered for the YMCA and the Superior Memorial Hospital in Superior. As kids in similar circumstances, she called herself a “PK” – Preachers Kid since her father had been a Methodist minister. She loved being involved in family activities and was a voracious reader, puzzler, and bird watcher.

Marian is survived by her two sons; David Erickson (Ruth) of West Terre Haute, IN and Stephen Erickson (Barb) of Balsam Lake, WI. Marian has four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one brother, Joseph Butler, of Hemet, CA. She has three surviving sisters in law, Jerri Erickson of Sun City, AZ, Dorothy Tucker of Sun City West, AZ, and Mavorette Buttler of Bend, OR and many nieces and nephews.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband Howard, brothers, Richard and Robert Butler and two sisters, Josephine and Ardis who died in childhood.

A celebration of life open house will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 3:00-6:00 PM at the Dreamland Supper Club, 4368 South County Rd. E, South Range, WI.
