Marian Louise Harry

Marian Louise (Green) Harry, 89, Superior, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth.

She was born March 30, 1921 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior to John and Evelyn (Powell) Green.

Marian attended Cathedral Grade School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1938. She attended Superior State Teacher College (UWS), graduating in 1942. She taught elementary school in Marshfield, WI and later in the Milwaukee area before returning to Duluth-Superior in 1952. On August 16, 1948, she married William R. Harry at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior, and in 2010 they celebrated sixty-two years of marriage. Marian was a longtime member of Cathedral parish and was an active parish volunteer. She also volunteered at St. Francis Nursing Home for many years. Bowling, bridge, and golf were her favorite pastimes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Evelyn Green, and by her brother, John Green, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, William R. Harry, Superior; a daughter, Ann L. Harry of Onalaska, WI, two sons, Paul (Sarah) Harry, of Rogers, MN, and William J., of Maple Grove, MN; a sister, Helen Manion of Superior, a sister-in-law, Mathilda (John Jr.) Green of Franklin, WI; daughter-in-law Jean (Karl) Stadstad, Eagan, MN; grandchildren Catherine Harry, Wayzata MN, Jennifer (John) Huerd, Maple Grove, MN, John L. Harry, Duluth, MN, and Elise Harry, Rogers, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of Christ the King with Rev. Fr. Dean T. Buttrick as celebrant. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at Cathedral’s Kress Hall.

Pallbearers for the funeral Mass will be John Manion, James Manion, Gerald Manion, Mark Manion, John Harry, and John Huerd.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Superior Cathedral School or to the Solvay Hospice House, Duluth.

The family would like to extend its thanks to Susan, Faith, and Dan from St. Mary’s Hospice and Palliative Care, to the wonderful staff at Solvay Hospice House, and to special caregiver Mary Stipetich for their gentle kindness.
