Marian J. Maki, 82, lifelong Superior resident, died Friday, June 7, 2019 at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation in Superior. She was born in Superior, August 21, 1936, the daughter of Erick and Gladys (Lehtimaki) Siekkinen.
She graduated from East High School in Superior.
Marian was united in marriage to Melvin Maki in Superior, on November 26, 1955, and they celebrated sixty-two years of marriage before her passing. Together, they owned and operated ServiceMaster in the Superior and Duluth area for 36 years.
She was a longtime active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Superior; was a member of the Homemakers Club, Card Club and Domino Groups. Marian was an excellent cook and baker, and enjoyed antique collecting, reading, knitting, and gardening. She was a talented china painter and submitted many blue-ribbon pieces at the state level. Marian loved people, loved to laugh, was a good listener, and she made everyone she met feel comfortable and that they mattered. She was a caretaker and dear friend to many during her lifetime, and she was a woman of her word, and people knew they could count on her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Melvin, Superior, WI; children; Tod (Cassi) Maki, Ledgeview, WI; Dannette “Dani” (John) Watkins, Duluth, MN, Kevin Maki and Kate Maki, both of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Nathaniel Plato, McMillan, MI, Jason (Jenna) Maki, Superior, WI, Ann Maki, Green Bay, WI, Shane Maki, Green Bay, WI and Lindsay Maki, Superior, WI; great-grandchildren, Hailey Maki, Emmett Plato, Roslyn Bufford, Kirsi Maki, and Kiira Marian Maki; special nieces and nephews; Julie, Brenda, Tim and Joe and several special cousins and long-time friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Frank Semborski; and brother, Richard “Dick” Siekkinen.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Villa Marina and St. Lukes Hospice.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 East 2 nd Street, Superior, and will continue until the 12:00 pm Memorial Service with Pastor Victor St. George officiating.
