Marianne Peters, 89, longtime Superior resident died Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior. She was born on August 8, 1928 in Varmland Sweden to Hilding and Annie (Holmdahl) Larson.
She was a graduate of Superior Central High School class of 1946, and was a member of the All School Reunion Committee as well as her own class.
Marianne was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where she served on various committees including Altar Guild and Spatial Design. She loved gardening, traveling, baking, crocheting and reading. She also enjoyed hunting deer, bear, pheasants and fishing with her family throughout her lifetime. She loved going to hockey, basketball, football, and baseball games to cheer on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed golfing, watching Packer and Viking games, and playing card games with her family.
She was a member of the Swedish Cultural Society, Superior Area Retired Educators’ Association, Bong Book Club, United Methodist Women, Dorcas Society, Superior/Twin Ports Christian Women’s Association and the former Seaway Seeders Garden club. She had also served on the Patient and Family Advisory Council at Essentia Health in Superior.
In her youth she worked at Grant’s Cake Shop during World War II and also at Larson’s Confectionary Store at 21 st and Tower Avenue. Later she was employed at McKee and Sons and Enwalls Florists. Additionally, she was a Foster Parent and managed a day care in her home. She was well known for her baking skills having made countless wedding cakes for friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd E. Peters, Sr. in 1998, daughter Joan Leslie Peters in 2016, and her parents. Marianne is survived by four daughters, Vivian (Ronald) Markley, Superior, WI, Diana Santilli, Southern Pines, NC, Gloria (Steward) Raygor, Superior, WI, Karen (Rick) Miller, The Villages, FL, one son, Floyd E. (Cheri) Peters, Jr., Poplar, WI, fifteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren, sister Harriet (Fred) Thomson, Memonomie Falls, WI, many nieces and nephews as well as many relatives in Sweden.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 25, 2018 at Faith United Methodist Church, 1531 Hughitt Avenue, Superior, and will continue until the funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Marianne’s name to the charity of the givers choice.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Villa Marina for the wonderful care they provided Marianne during her stay.
