Marie E. Peterson

Marie E. Peterson, 71, lifelong Superior area resident, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.
She was born on May 7, 1938 in Superior, WI to Martin and Esther (Peterson) Mastrian.
She married Arthur Peterson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Superior on August 15, 1959 and celebrated forty-nine years of marriage.
Marie was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Tri-State Racing Women’s Auxiliary.
She volunteered for over twenty years at St. Mary’s Hospital. She enjoyed reading with a passion, needlework and loved animals.
Marie is survived by her husband, Art; two sons, Todd Peterson, Superior, WI and Kevin (Patty)Peterson, Oneida, WI; a daughter, Kristine Peterson, Knoxville, TN; one granddaughter, Abigael; three nephews, Robert (Sue) Martorano and James (Mary) Martorano, both of Superior, WI and Thomas (Linda) Martorano, Minneapolis, MN; one niece, JoAnn (Don) Geramita, Canton, OH and many cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Fred Benson, sister, Ruth, brother, Arthur and nephew, William.
Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior. Visitation will resume at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor Sarah Larsen officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Douglas County Humane Society or to ARF.
