Marilyn J. Christopherson, 89, longtime East End Superior resident, died peacefully Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Marywood of Benedictine Assisted Living in Duluth, MN. She was born in Superior, October 10, 1929, the daughter of Milton and Etta Long.
She graduated from Central High School in 1947, and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Superior State College, Superior (UWS).
Marilyn was united in marriage to Frank W. Christopherson Jr. in Superior in May, 1950, and they recently celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage.
She was a longtime active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Superior, where she served as a Parish Trustee and Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council; was a Lector and a member of the Altar Society, and was also a Girl Scout Leader.
Marilyn was also very active in the community. She served on the National Board of Directors for Catholic Charities, where she also worked as a consultant. She was a member of the Diocese of Superior, the Diocesan Pastoral Council, and served on the Catholic School Board with the City of Superior. She was also the Editor of the Newspapers in both, Iron River and Bayfield, WI, and was the Campaign Manager for her husband during his Assemblyman and State Senator years.
She also enjoyed cooking and was an avid Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewers fan. Above all, she loved spending time with her family at their cabin.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Frank W. Christopherson Jr; daughters, Ann (Charles) Peck, of Florida and Beth Christopherson, Superior, WI; sons, Mike Christopherson, Superior, WI, Frank W. (Sara) Christopherson III, Grantsburg, WI, and John (Deb) Christopherson, Superior, WI; eight grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons; and brother, Mark (Sharon) Long, St. Paul, MN, as well as nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Kurt and Bud Long.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 21, 2019, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2316 E. 4 th Street, Superior, and will continue until the 12:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
