Marjorie S. Tracy (Stack)

Marjorie (Stack) Tracy 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth. Marge was born in Superior to her parents William C. and Margaret Stack on July 12, 1933. Marge attended Cathedral School from elementary through high school where she met her husband Jim Tracy, a fellow classmate of the Cathedral High School class of 1951. Marge attended college at St. Catherine University and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in speech pathology. Fr. Donn Tracy, Jim’s cousin, married Jim and Marge on April 7, 1958 at the Cathedral of Christ the King.

Prior to starting a family, Marge worked as a speech therapist for the school district of Superior. Jim and Marge raised three boys at homes in Hayes Court and on Hammond Ave. in Superior; Tom (born September 13, 1959), Tim (born December 7, 1961), and Matt (born January 7, 1966).

While the Tracy boys were students at Cathedral School, Marge created Mini Course Week for the middle school students. Marge was a long-time member of the P.E.O Chapter BU, member of the Catholic Daughters, served on the Superior Vocation Center Board, and worked on many Cathedral all-school reunions. She deeply valued her friendships from Cathedral School and stayed in close contact with many Cathedral alums both near and far. Marge also served as a prayer partner with fourth grade students at Cathedral School. As recognition for their impact on Catholic education, Jim and Marge were the first couple to receive the Lumen Christi award from Cathedral School in May 2017.

Marge was a daily communicant at the Cathedral of Christ the King and for many years would bring Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. Marge walked the journey of faith with many people both in her family and in the community and helped many in their dying days. It was this experience of being at the bedside of so many, including her husband Jim just two months ago, that helped her face her passing with a valiant and peaceful heart.

The Tracy family would like to sincerely thank the Solvay Hospice House staff for their wonderful care in Marge’s final days. It was a truly blessed time with many stories, laughs, and tears as many visitors poured into Marge’s room to say good-bye.

Marge is preceded in death by her parents William C. and Margaret, husband Jim, brothers Robert, William Jr., and Jim, and son Tim.

She is survived by sons Tom (Lynn) of Superior and Matt (Karen) of St. Michael, MN, daughter-in-law Tammy of Nashville, TN, along with eight grandchildren James III (Cassie) of Maple Grove, MN, Dan of St. Francis, WI, Anne of St. Paul, MN, Kellen of Superior, Taylor of Nashville, Joshua, Sydney, and Jackson of St. Michael, MN.

Visitation service will be held at the Cathedral of Christ the King at 1111 Belknap Street in Superior on Friday, March 9 beginning at 5:00 p.m. and concluding with a prayer service from 6:45 to 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral with a rosary preceding at 9:45 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Adam Laski presiding. Pallbearers for the Mass will be grandsons Kellen Tracy, Joshua Tracy, and Jackson Tracy, and nephews Bill Stack, Paul Stack, and Peter Stack.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Cathedral School.
