Mary Bleyenberg, 96, Superior, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 in her residence.
She was born on December 10, 1914 in Superior to Jules and Emma (Letz) Bleyenberg.
She lived in Chicago for fifty-three years, moving back to Superior in 1987 after retiring as office manager for Hi-Lo Foods.
Mary was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Belgian Club Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court 1190, the St. Anthony Rug Ladies and T.O.P.S.
She loved crocheting, needlepoint, hand crafts and was well known for her homemade Belgian cookies. She was a gifted storyteller and had traveled extensively through Europe especially Belgium, to visit relatives. Mary will always be affectionately remembered by family as “Aunt Sis”.
When Mary was in her forty’s, she decided to buy a brand new car and learn to drive. She was always a very independent person.
Mary is survived by one sister, Joan Dhooge, Superior; three nieces, Janet (Larry) Ledin, Superior, JoAnn (Bill) Dens, Barnum, MN and Arizona, Frances Meyst, Manistique, MI; three nephews, Jerry (Kay) Dhooge, Solon Springs, WI, and Arizona; Dan (Mary) Dhooge, Lake Gogebic, MI and Florida, and William Meyst, Menominee, MI and several grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Clementine Meyst and a brother, Francis Bleyenberg.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 6, 2011 in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Donald Kania as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
Mary’s grand nieces and nephews will be recognized as pallbearers.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
