Mary Jane Johnson, 85, longtime area resident, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on November 28, 1924 in Brule, WI to Hannes and Lillian (Maki) Johnson.
She was graduated Valedictorian from the Waino High School class of 1942.
She went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the former Superior State Teacher’s College.
Mary Jane was employed in the Superior School District and served most of her career with the Maple School District at the Cloverland Elementary School for thirty-one years and also taught at Poplar Elementary School for three years.
She and her sister Irene were extremely proud to have contributed to the World War II effort being employed as riveters at the Boeing bomb plant in Washington State.
She also loved participating in the Annual School Youth Fair Exhibits at the Tri-State Fairgrounds. She also loved playing piano.
Mary Jane was a member of the Fidelis Chapter Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority for Retired Teachers.
She married her husband Allan on October 27, 1951 in Superior and celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage.
In addition to her husband Allan who resides in Superior, Mary Jane is survived by two sons, Joel (Lana) Johnson, Hayward, WI, Steven (Marilyn) Johnson, Foxboro, WI; four grandchildren, Lindsay Johnson, Hayward, WI, Keith (Amy Hill) Johnson, San Diego, CA, Christopher (Katie Friestad) Johnson, Eau Claire, WI, Scott (Kristie) Johnson, Superior; one great-granddaughter, Elise Brooke Johnson, Superior, WI; two sisters, Harriett Rantala, Eden Prairie, MN, Louise (Clarence) Heikkila, Superior, WI; three brothers, Ronald (Gayle) Johnson, Brule, Larry (Sandy) Johnson, Richfield, MN, Fred (Louise) Johnson, Ashland, WI and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son Kenneth Robert Johnson in 1984; two sisters Irene Jarvi and Charlotte Goodman and four brothers Floyd, Robert, Kenneth and Roger Johnson.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Sunday, March 28, 2010 until the 2:00 PM Memorial Service at Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar, WI, with Pastor Greg Gullicksrud, officiating.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in Rest Haven Cemetery in Cloveraland, WI.
Mary Jane’s grandchildren will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
