Mary M. O’Brien, 91, formerly of Superior, currently of Andover, MN, passed away at Johanna Shores Nursing Home in Arden Hills, MN on Thursday, May 09, 2013.
She was born on June 12, 1921 in Hancock, Michigan to Albert and Avon (Howard) Martin.
She was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 1190, PTA, YMCA and T.O.P.S. She was a volunteer in the area at various locations.
Mary enjoyed her time with her husband in New Port Richey, Florida where she volunteered with runaway children.
Mary loved the outdoors and was a camping pioneer. She and her four girls started in a tent and graduated to an RV.
She loved a good campfire, telling stories around it and would be the last one to leave it.
Mary loved entertaining and was well known for her costume parties.
She had a very kind heart and was always helping the under privileged.
Mary was an avid gardener and passed her passion on to all of her children.
She was a cleaning fanatic and always had a list a mile long for her daily agenda.
Mary is survived by one son, Francis O’Brien, Burnsville, MN; four daughters, Mary (Jim) Schneider, Green Bay, WI, Peggy (Tim) Kiiski, Superior, Trish O’Brien, Minneapolis, Lucy (Bruce) Nelson, Coon Rapids, MN; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Martin, Hancock, MI; two brothers, James Martin, Hancock, MI and David Martin, Coon Rapids, MN and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” O’Brien in 2003; two brothers, Paul and Howard Martin; one sister, Catherine Martin and her daughter-in-law, Janice O’Brien.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass on Monday, May 13, 2013 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Don Kania, as celebrant.
Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Mary’s grandchildren.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
