Mary E. Peterson, 71, longtime area resident went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after drowning in a swimming accident, Thursday, September 3, 2020 in Amnicon Lake doing what she loved most. She was born in Little Fork, MN, July 1, 1949, the daughter of Goodwin and Esther (Hogfeldt) Hammersborg.
She was a graduate of South Shore High School in Port Wing, class of 1967 and went on to earn her degree in nursing from WITC. She worked as an LPN at the former St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior for many years before her retirement in 2000.
Mary was united in marriage to Clifford Peterson December 15, 1990 and they were soon to celebrate thirty-years of marriage.
She was a longtime member of Central Assembly of God church in Superior-where she served as leader of the prayer chain.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Peterson, Summit, WI; sister, Laura (Kevin) Prochaska, Poplar, WI; several nieces and nephew; and several great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-niece.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, John Hammersborg.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Central Assembly of God Church, 3000 Hammond Avenue, Superior, and will continue until the 12:00 PM Memorial Service with Pastor Tom Miller officiating.
Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Jason Ruona, Adam Blazevic, Caleb Peterson, Luke Peterson, Micah Peterson, Jackson Peterson, David Hammersborg, and Ted Hammersborg.
