Mary A. Sweeney

February 10, 1910 — July 4, 2013

Mary A. Sweeney, 103, lifelong Superior resident, died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Castle Ridge Home in Eden Prairie, MN as a result of complications from a broken arm. Her body was donated to Anatomy Bequest of Minnesota.

She was born on February 10, 1910 in Superior to William and Winifred (Lee) Manion.

She was the oldest of six children and had an identical twin sister.

Mary was among the first class to graduate from the former East High School in 1927 and went on to graduate from the former Superior Vocational School.
She married Raymond Sweeney at the Cathedral of Christ the King in 1935.

She enjoyed her Irish heritage by visiting Ireland, and in earlier times, visited the Irish community of Green Isle, MN where many of her mother’s family had settled.

Mary was the oldest member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, a member of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 1190.

She is survived by three children, James R. (Aimee) Sweeney, John W. (Carolyn) Sweeney and Mary Budzak, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in 1958; her parents; an infant son Timothy, four brothers and her twin sister.
A Memorial Mass celebrating her life is being planned for a later date.

Burial will take place at a later date in Calvary Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Superior, WI.
