Mary Irene Walkowiak, 79, longtime resident of Duluth, MN, died Sunday, March 13, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. She was born in Detroit, MI June 1, 1942, the daughter of Gordon and Clara (Isabella) Adamson. At 10 years old, Mary went to live with her aunt and uncle, Mae and Quintin Thompson who lovingly raised her as their own in Spooner, WI.
Mary graduated from Spooner High School in 1960 and went on to further her education, graduating from the former Duluth Business University. She worked for Travelers Insurance for many years and as an Aid in Special Education for the Duluth School District ISD709, before retiring in 2000.
Mary had a strong faith and enjoyed sharing that faith with others. She was a fun-loving spirit and especially loved music and dancing. She will lovingly be remembered for her smile and joyous spirit by the residents and staff of St. Ann’s Residence. Above all, she was a loving mother and grandmother, and especially loved spending time with her family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Bob) Mitzner; grandson, Jeremy Mitzner and his fiancé, Jenna; great-grandchildren, Jaelynn and Kyan; sisters, Helen (John) Curtis, Margaret (Wayne) Arntson, Mary (Tim) Gray; sister-in-law, Nancy Thompson; and many other cousins, relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Adamson, and Joe Thompson, and her parents.
A service for Mary will be held at a later date, and service date and times will be announced here.
