Maxine P. Bong, 87. Longtime Superior resident, died Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior. She was born on June 29, 1930 in Hayward, WI, the daughter of Herman and Effie (Christ) Lindholm.
Maxine was a graduate of the former Central High School, class of 1948.
As a senior in high school, she worked at the East End 5 & 10. At age 19, she worked for The Door Catch in South Superior. She then went on to work as a cashier at National T, Carhop Steve’s Tavern in South Superior, Lange’s Café and Vanods Photography. She retired from the Superior School District working in food service. She was also a Cub Scout Leader.
Maxine married Harvey Bong on July 21, 1951 and they celebrated sixty-two years of marriage before his passing.
She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church. She worked for the North End Board, Superior Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered for over thirty years.
Maxine enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed camping with her family, picnics, hunting and going on Sunday drives with Harvey. She loved cooking and baking from scratch, her Saturday night card games, and playing smear at the Belgium Club with her family for many years.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harvey in May, 2014; brother, Wilber Lindholm and Sister Joyce Scott.
Maxine is survived by three sons, Greg (Lucy) Bong, Athabasca, Alberta Canada, Jeff (Shari) Bong, and Kevin (Wendy) Bong, both of Superior; two granddaughters, Michelle (Matthew) Turner, Hudson, Ontario and Randi Bong, Superior; one great-grandson, Ethan Turner.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1924 Wyoming Avenue, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor Sarah Kerkes officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Maxine’s name to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, 3500 Tower Avenue, Superior, WI 54880.
