Melvin J. Rozell, 90, Lake Nebagamon, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on December 13, 1921 in Merrill, Iowa to Seth and Clara (Lonek) Rozell.
Melvin and the former Delores Bruland were married at the Hammond Avenue Presbyterian Church in Superior, WI in 1952. They would have celebrated sixty years of marriage this year.
In addition to his wife Delores, Melvin is survived by three sons, James (Debbie) Rozell, South Range, Ronald Rozell, Grantville, PA, Tom (Terri) Rozell, Lake Nebagamon; two daughters, Dolly (Bill) Bach, South Range, Sue (Scott) Priem, Superior; thirteen grandchildren, Brandon (Amy) Rozell, Michael (Marie) Rozell, Candi (Nick) Stariha, Stacy Rozell, Jeni Rozell, Amanda (Jeremy) Holman, Amber Rozell, Valerie Bach, Ashley Rozell, Andrew (Justine) Bach, Ryan Rozell, Brody Priem and Breanna Priem; nine great-grandchildren, Tasha, Seth, Dakota, Caitlin, Dillon, Reed, Hunter, Isabelle and Gage; four sisters-in-law, Vee Rozell, Ocala, FL, Betty Lou Conklin, Duluth, MN, Marilyn Hoag, Solon Springs, WI, Elmira (Robert) Hack, Davenport, FL and many nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Gladys Attrill; two brothers, Leonard and Floyd Rozell; three brothers-in-law, Alvin Attrill, Russell Hoag, Pete Conklin and one sister-in-law, Carol Rozell.
Melvin owned and operated a dairy farm in Hawthorne by Lake Minnesuing for more than fifty years and was well known in the area for the sweet corn that he grew and sold each summer. He served on the Board of Directors with the Twin Ports Creamery. He was a jack of all trades and was skilled as a butcher, mechanic, carpenter and machinist. He enjoyed tinkering with equipment on the farm, gardening, playing cards, hunting, snowmobiling and dancing with Delores. He was patient with children and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Melvin will be remembered fondly for his skill at arguing any topic and for his twinkling baby blues.
Melvin’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center for their caring and compassion throughout his stay with them.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Thursday, May 31, 2012 and will continue at 10:00 AM Friday, June 1, 2012 until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Brygger, officiating. Luncheon will follow the service at the Hawthorne Town Hall in Hawthorne, WI.
A private burial will be at the Lake Nebagamon Cemetery in Lake Nebagamon.
