Merlin R. “Mac” McCain, 85, Superior resident, died Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.
He was born on January 16, 1931 in Flint, MI to Edson and Mildred (Brewer) McCain.
Merlin served his country in the United States Marines Corps during the Korean conflict.
He was employed as a Security Guard for the Bowfin Park and Submarine Museum in Honolulu, HI of many years.
Merlin lived in Hawaii for thirty-two years. He liked to explore his environment and interact with people. He enjoyed collecting stamps and building models. He loved oil painting and was a wonderful artist.
Merlin acted as a caregiver for his mom and they formed a special bond that was very important to him before her passing.
Merlin is survived by one niece, Michal (Joe) Ventimiglio and their children, Kailyn and Emma; and Billie Jo (Lorne) Wendt, South Range, WI; and their children, Logan and Sydnie.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother William R. Smith.
Per Merlin’s wishes no public services will be held.
