Michael Wayne Craven, Sr.

May 16, 1943 — November 9, 2010

Michael Wayne Craven, Sr., 67, of Monticello, MN (formerly of Superior, WI), died Tuesday, November 9, 2010, following a brave battle with cancer.


He was born to Clinton and Linda Craven on May 16, 1943, in Bemidji, MN, and spent the majority of his life in Superior.

Mike spent many years working for the Frazier Shipyards as well as Nopeming Nursing Home, where he also stood as President of the Local Union. Most recently, Mike retired as a bus operator with Metro Transit. Mike’s work ethic and dedication was something to be admired.

He was a loyal “Cheesehead” and Brett Favre fan. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a passion for gardening, gadgets, electronics and a darn good bargain. Mike will best be remembered for his generosity, compassion and sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife Kelly Craven (Olson), his children: Michael Craven, Jr., Jackie Craven-Busch, Amanda Craven (Nate Ostrom) and Amber Barker (Jathan), his grandchildren: Haley, Kyleigh, Lincoln, Makena, Emily, Cora, Macy and Isabelle, his siblings Laura Anderson (Larry), Sue Korhonen (Doug), Randy Craven, Robert Craven, Sr., Sharie Craven and Scott Craven, his stepchildren: Dustin, Devin and Brianne Waterhouse, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard Craven, Beverly Shaul Craven, mother of his four children, and his son-in-law Joe Busch.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Monday, November 15, 2010 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor Patrick Ziems officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.

Pallbearers for the service will be Michael Craven, Jr., Greg Shaul, Nate Ostrom, Jathan Barker, Devin Waterhouse and Dustin Waterhouse.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN for their exceptional care and attention that both they and Mike received.
