Michael Joseph "Mike" Hack, 79, longtime Superior resident passed away surrounded by his loving family Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN. He was born January 31, 1946, the son of Harry and Violet (Peterman) Hack in Superior WI.
Mike proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he became a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 77 in Duluth, MN. He worked as a Union steward for the CWA Telephone Pioneers of America and spent 30 years working for the Wisconsin Telephone Company. He attended Cathedral and Central High Schools and briefly studied at the University of Wisconsin-Superior before beginning his career.
On June 3, 1989, Mike married Mary Simzek, and together they shared 36 years of love and companionship until his passing.
Mike was a passionate outdoorsman who cherished time spent at their cabin on Beaver Lake in Twig, MN, where he enjoyed finding new ways to turn "junk" into treasures. He took great pride in maintaining one of the best-looking yards in the neighborhood. An avid musician, Mike, was also a rock and roll drummer from his teenage years, playing whenever the opportunity arose. Music was always a central part of his life, and it brought him great joy.
Mike is survived by his wife, Mary Hack of Superior, WI; daughter, Kacy Hack of New Richmond, WI; brother, Richard (Carol) Hack of Chico, CA; brothers-in-law, Mike (Bonnie) Simzek, Superior, WI and Pat (Wendy) Simzek, Hugo, MN; sister-in-law, Liz (Bob) Mehling, Duluth, MN; several nieces and nephews; and his loyal canine companion, Norman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jeanne Clegg; brother, Thomas Hack; and nephew, Steven Hack.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Solvay Hospice House and Essentia Health Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Mike during his illness.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street in Superior, and will continue until the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Donna Rutten as officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
