Michael P. Murray, 68, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loved ones following a long battle with cancer.
He was born on January 11, 1941 in Superior, WI to James and Dorothy (Archambault) Murray.
He attended Cathedral grade school, graduated from Ondossagan High School in 1960 and attended Superior State College.
Most of his adult life was spent in Milwaukee, WI and the surrounding area where he was employed as a baker. After his retirement he lived in Necedah, WI.
He loved listening to gospel music, reading, watching the 700 Club on television, participating in the Christian discussion group at Middle River. He also enjoyed listening to the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers.
Michael is survived by his mother, Dorothy Murray; father, James D. Murray; sister, Kathleen “Kathy” Johnson, all of Superior, WI; five brothers, John N., Gordon, WI, Bill, Superior, WI, Donald Jr. (Carolyn), Superior, WI, Steven (Sue), Gordon, WI and Tracy (Mary Kay) Murray, Superior, WI; nephews, Michael Fonger, Madison, WI and Mathew Fonger, Duluth, MN, Mark and Brett Murray, both of Superior, WI, Chad and Nicholas Murray, both of Gordon, WI ; nieces, Annisa (Bart) Baker, Lodi, WI, Michele (Norman) Trapp, Gordon, WI, Chantal (Matt) McGee, Cimarron, CO, Janie Marie Murray, Gordon, WI , Pauline (Dustin) Carlson, Duluth, MN and special niece, Laura Jeanne (Jason) Powless, Belleville, WI; many great nieces and nephews; one great great niece; special sister-in-law, Greta Ann Murray, Medford, WI and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by a toddler brother, Dennis, sister, Jane Fonger, brother, Timothy Murray, nephew, Paul A. Johnson, maternal grandparents, Whitney Sr. and Freeda Archambault and paternal grandparents, John and Elizabeth Murray.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM on Thursday, September 17, 2009 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior and continue until the 7:00 PM Memorial Service with Pastor John Raimo officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Hospice of Duluth or a donation made in Michael’s name to charity of your choice.
