Michael “Mike” Lee Paine, 70, of Superior, died peacefully on April 8th, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Mike was born on October 28th, 1953, the youngest son of Robert and LuVerne (Darst) Paine. He grew up in Superior, which remained his home, though he embarked on a life of travel from an early age. He spent years living in many different places, including Colorado, Alaska, Reno, and Florida.
He thrived on his wits and supported himself and his family with a variety of “careers” including demolition, fast food, flea markets, hotel management, gambling, bartering, and many more that we either don’t know or refuse to tell. Some of these ventures were more lucrative than others.
Mike lived his life fully and filled it with family, friendships, and adventure. He loved animals and kept pets his entire life, from his childhood pony to his favorite dog, Buster, and finally Sally, the scrappy dog he leaves behind. He made friends easily with his outgoing and loyal personality. In his final days, they crowded his bedside to wish him well and express their gratitude.
His family brought him great joy and purpose. We remember him for his absolute dedication to us all and his constant, immediate attention to anything we ever asked of him.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Paul John.
He is survived by his sons, Michael, James, and Jerry Paine, all of Superior, their wives, Sara Paine, Jenny Van Sickle, and Ashley Paine, their children and stepchildren Faith, Riley, Haven, Sabrina, and Zechariah. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert (Susan) Paine, Frederick (Nancy) Paine, both of Superior, and their children and grandchildren, and many close friends, especially Jim (Theresa) Dalton, Dave Brokaw, and Todd Sarkela.
Visitation will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street in Superior, and will continue until the Service of Remembrance at 1:00 PM, with Gary Banker officiating.
The family invites everyone to a reception at the Log Cabin Tavern, 2821 County Rd. E in South Range, following the service.
