Michael P. Willette, 72, lifelong Superior area resident, died Monday, July 20, 2009 at his residence after a lengthy, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on November 28, 1936 in Superior, WI to Floyd and Rose (Rushman) Willette.
Michael graduated from the former Cathedral High School in 1954, served his country in the United States Navy for three years and graduated from UW-Superior in 1961.
He was the owner of “Mike’s Place” Tavern for many years.
He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Family was very important to him. He also loved gardening and riding motorcycles.
Michael is survived by four daughters, Shelby P. Martin, Christi L. Willette, Michele P. (Dan) Archambeau and Robyn R. (Robert) Lamoreaux; ten grandchildren, Brittany, Elijah and Jesse Martin, Travis, Paige and Dani Maki, Alexis and Chase Archambeau and Seth and Alaina Lamoreaux.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Rose Willette and a sister, Nancy Faye Currie.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior. Visitation will resume at 10:00 AM on Thursday in Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church and continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Leon Flaherty as celebrant.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior with Military Honors accorded by Thomas F. Stein VFW Post #1091 and Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Combined Color Guard.
