Michele L. Hughes

Michele L. Hughes, 69, lifelong area resident, died Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation in South Range, WI. She was born in Superior, WI, January 15, 1951, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Moder) Barnaby.

She was a graduate of Northwestern High School, class of 1969 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, later earning her master’s degree in nursing from St. Scholastica. She worked as a Public Health Nurse for Douglas County for many years before her retirement.

She was united in marriage to Leo Hughes September 1, 1984 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lake Nebagamon, and they recently celebrated thirty-five years of marriage before his passing in October 2019.

Michele was a longtime active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lake Nebagamon, WI, where she served as the parish nurse for many years.

Michele is survived by her sons, Travis (Angela) Hanson, Superior, WI, and Ryan (Michelle) Hanson, Suffield, CT; grandchildren, Isabella, Sophia and Josie Hanson, Shyloh Taylor, and Maximillian and Samuel Hanson; brother, Richard Barnaby; and nieces and nephews, Debbie (Scott) Mauer, Jennifer Taylor, Michael and Christie Barnaby, and Lyric Oliver.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Leo; parents; and brother, Michael Barnaby.

Visitation will begin with an 11:00 AM Rosary, Saturday, February 15, 2020, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 11648 E. County Rd. B, Lake Nebagamon, WI, with a special Nurses Honor Guard tribute following the Rosary. The visitation will continue until the 1:00 PM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Inna Pothireddy as celebrant.

Burial will be in Lake Nebagamon Cemetery.
