Mildred R. Gerzic

October 20, 1913 — April 8, 2010

Mildred R. Gerzic, 96, lifelong Superior resident, died peacefully surrounded by family members on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

She was born in Superior, WI on October 20, 1913 to Arthur and Mary (Ross) DeClerck.

She married Peter Gerzic and they shared over sixty years of marriage before his passing in 1993.

Mildred was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Senior Citizens Center and was a volunteer for RSVP. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards with her lady friends, and spending time at the cabin in Lake Nebagamon during the summers. She was very religious and loved her spirituality.


She is preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Adrian DeClerck, husband, Peter in 1993, son, Richard Gerzic in 2003, daughter, Gloria Gerzic in 1994, son-in-law, Jack Paine in 2006, and sisters Cyrilla Gaynor, Dorothy Leemans and Lorraine Turner.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Sally Paine, Superior, WI; five grandchildren, Steve (Lisa), Debbie, Michael, Terry (Sue) and David Paine; six great-grandchildren, Amanda, Leah, Paxton, Tanner, Stephanie and Clayton; her sister, Sister Mary Ardelle DeClerck, sisters-in-law, Mary Gerzic and Marge Bogart and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 12, 2010 in Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church and continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.

Inurnment will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Mildred’s name to Cathedral School.

The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
