Nancy J. Baker

Nancy J. Baker of Superior, WI and Wasilla, AK, died Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Matsu Regional Hospital in Palmer, AK after a short illness. Nancy was born in Superior, WI on December 9, 1933 to Lawrence M. and Inez Hagen.

She attended school in Superior and after graduation went to work for the Governor of Minnesota for a short time before returning to Superior where she married James R. Baker on October 17, 1953.

After having their four children, Nancy returned to work for the School District of Superior as a teacher’s aide. From there, Nancy went to work at Superior Memorial Hospital in the laundry room and then went on to be a nurse’s aide. Nancy then left the hospital and went to work for CASDA as a child advocate, and after five years started working for the Douglas County Health Department where she stayed for many years until retirement.

After she retired, Nancy loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, James in 2016, her brother Lawrence “Buzz” Hagen, grandson Eric Christianson and daughter-in-law Beverly Baker.

Nancy is survived by her four children, Julie (Dave) Christianson, Kevin Baker, Lauri (Randy) Keuhler and Michael (Elena) Baker; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; five sister, Lois Smith, Joan (Chuck) Everson and Marlene Peterson, Marsha (Bob) Bliss and Lillis (Lloyd) Murray; two brothers, Gene (Barb) Hagen and Bruce (Lois) Hagen; brother-in-law, Bill (Ruth) Baker and sister-in-law, Lois Hagen and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 5821 John Avenue, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM Celebration of Life service.
