Nancy Kay Monaghan Beery, DO, 66, longtime Duluth, MN resident, died Tuesday, March 7, at Solvay Hospice House. She was born on December 28, 1956 in Superior, WI, the daughter of Wilbert and June (Hillestad) Monaghan.
A 1975 graduate of Superior Senior High School, she went on to Marquette University to receive an under-graduate degree in 1979. Nancy earned her doctorate at KCUMB-Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences in 1995. She was employed by St. Mary’s Essentia Health in Duluth as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.
Nancy married Michael Beery on October 21, 1989 and celebrated 33 years of marriage. Together they raised two sons.
She was a member of Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Duluth. Nancy maintained fellowships with American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians and American Academy of Pediatricians. In her spare time, she was a marathoner, Ironman triathlete and alpine skier.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Michael Beery, Duluth, MN; sons Joshua (Sydney) Beery, Esko, MN and Jacob Beery, St. Louis, MO; one grandchild expected in May; sisters Julie Monaghan, Superior, WI, Maureen (Peter) Gee, Superior, WI, Margery Monaghan, Wausau, WI, and Patti Rhodes, St. Louis Park, MN; brothers Mark Monaghan, Sahuarita, AZ, Mike (Carol) Monaghan, Rolling Meadows, IL, and Jeff Monaghan, Superior, WI; and several nieces and nephews; close friends, cousins and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie, Kathy, June, and Harlen.
Visitation will begin with a 6:00 PM Scripture Service and end with a 7:00 PM Rosary with Deacon Jim Philbin, Sunday, March 12, at Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue in Superior. Visitation will resume at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 13, at Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 2801 E 4 th Street, Duluth, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Most Rev. Bishop Daniel Felton as celebrant. Pallbearers for the service will be Mark Monaghan, Mike Monaghan, Ryan Monaghan, Sean Treat, Scott Radtke and Kane Larson.
Burial will take place in Poplar Cemetery at a later date.
