Natalie Maude “Matma” Dahl, 80, of Superior died on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Superior with her loving family by her side. Natalie was born in Superior on May 19, 1936 to Homer and Jennie (Newsome) Witzig. She attended Nelson Dewy Grade School and graduated from Superior East High School in 1954.
Having been widowed at age 28, Natalie was a fabulous mother and father for her children. “Nattie” was known for her intelligence and ability to answer any questions given to her. “Nattie” will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor, as well as her unique ability to turn any phrase into a song. She gladly accepted every invitation to a reunion, concert, sporting event, party, prom, and wedding. A gypsy at heart, she was ready to get up and go at the drop of a hat. She enjoyed traveling throughout her life and visited many places in the United States and abroad. She loved girl vacations, family cruises and family reunions. Every summer was spent enjoying food, games, and family at The Cottage in Wascott.
Natalie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Allan, and sister Bette.
She is survived by her children Jenny (Mike) Dahl-Strang, John (Ann) Bumgardner-Dahl, Rita (Barry) Dahl, and Nancy Gullo; grandchildren, Nicholas Strang (Lyndsey Vogler), Zachary Strang (Rachel Fedoronko), Max and Maggie Dahl, Emma, Alan, and Quinn Dahl; siblings, Ruth McKee, Jim Witzig, Max (Joanie) Witzig, Tulie (Vern) Schumacher; and a loving extended family and many close friends.
Natalie worked for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department where she was the first female Jailer. She fought for and won equal pay for matrons. She was admired for her professionalism and her respect shown to all. She retired as a corporal in 2001.
Interment at Wascott Cemetery at 12:00 PM, Saturday, November 12, 2016 followed by a gathering of family and friends, 1:00 PM, at the Wascott Town Hall, 16362 S. Town Hall Road, Wascott, WI 54890.
