Nona J. Yrjanainen

July 28, 1932 — January 24, 2022

Nona J. Yrjanainen, 89, longtime Brule, WI resident, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 24, 2022, at Northern Lights in Washburn, WI. She was born in Oulu, WI, July 28, 1932, the daughter of Oliver R. and Alma (Aho) Johnson.

Nona was united into marriage to Waino Yrjanainen in November of 1952, and they celebrated 69 years of marriage before her passing.

Nona owned and operated “Nona’s Café” in Minong, WI for over ten years and was known for her love of cooking. She also had a passion for serving others and loved helping people with body and foot massage. Nona was a longtime member of the Finnish Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Oulu, WI. She enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, deer hunting, 4-wheeling and she especially loved fishing with Waino.

Nona is survived by her husband of 69 years, Waino; five children, Jeanie (Donald) Jokinen, Iron Mountain, MI, Bonnie (Robert) Liubakka, Superior, WI, Donna Yrjanainen, Minneapolis, MN, Waino John (Sheila) Yrjanainen, Eldorado, KS, and Todd (Emily) Yrjanainen, Superior, WI; nineteen grandchildren, Anna (Ronald) Graves, Sanna (Bill) Henrickson, Donnie Jokinen, Josephine (Lee) Yoki, Nathan Liubakka, Jonah (Cassie) Liubakka, Seija (Mike) Isaacs, Coty (Brianna) Liubakka, Nicholas (Holly) Kallenbach, Lindsay (Nick Wilbur) Kallenbach , Nina (John Smith) Liubakka, Bo Liubakka, Trish (Matt) Berger, Mistee (Jed) Gable, Mandee (Brad) Emerson, Samuel Yrjanainen, Waino Jake (Lindsay) Yrjanainen, Brianna (Josh) Sislo and Corrinne (Josh) Poland; thirty-five great-grandchildren, Hannali Takkunen, Gavin Takkunen, Maya Henrickson, Mila Henrickson, Cedric Henrickson, Lilic Jokinen, Alek Jokinen, Dexter (Erin) Yoki, Haley Yoki, Thatcher Liubakka, Benjamin Liubakka, Aija Liubakka, Grayson Liubakka, Lennon Isaacs, Otto Isaacs, Luka Liubakka, Beckett Liubakka, Naydia Kallenbach, Marley Wilbur, Chase Ruuska, Sy Liubakka, Camden, Cade, Cuinn, Cadence, Cairin, and Cambrie Berger, Alaina Gable, Alex Gable, Ari Gable, Ella Yrjanainen, Liam Sislo, Evelyn Sislo, Sofia Yrjanainen, and Ihana Poland; four sisters, Barbara (Richard) Tuura, Brule, WI, Cheryl (Tom) Sawyer, New Port, FL, Cindy Sawyer, Minneapolis, MN, and Sheree Cooney, Minneapolis, MN; three brothers, Virgil (Mavis) Johnson, Brule, WI, Rodney (Nancy) Johnson, Brule, WI and Daryl (Marilyn) Johnson, Iron River, WI.

She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Vicky Yrjanainen; great-granddaughter, Adalyn Liubakka; sister, Sharon Gunderson; brothers, Wesley, Clayton, and Marvin Johnson; brothers-in-law, Terry Sawyer, and Matt Cooney; and her parents, Oliver, and Alma Johnson.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 29, 2022, at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 3863 S County Road F, Maple, WI, and will continue until the 1:00 PM Memorial Service with Rick Salmela officiating.
