Nora Ann Nelson, 84, resident of Superior, WI, died peacefully, Monday, September 28, 2020 surrounded by her children at Villa Marina Health Care in Superior. She was born May 17, 1936, at her grandmother’s home in Superior, WI. She was the only child of Marybelle Kantarik and Stanley Wojciechowksi.
Nora loved growing up with her grandmother and her uncles. She often told stories of when she was young and how they would go sledding down the hill outside their house.
Nora was an amazing caregiver throughout her life and was always willing to help others when she could. She worked as a CNA at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the former St. Francis Nursing Home in Superior, retiring in 1997.
She was a longtime active member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church in Superior and the Catholic Daughters of America Court 1190. After retirement, Nora volunteered her time often at Cathedral Church, this was truly something she absolutely loved doing. She also enjoyed gardening and bowling.
Nora was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She doted on her family and was happiest when her large brood surrounded her. She hosted large BBQ’s but we always knew it may taste like lighter fluid. We always joked with her about it.
She is survived by her daughters, Patty (Ken) D’Abato, Darla (Mick) Higgins, Laurie Moss, Kathy Nelson; and her number one son, Dennis McDonald; grandchildren Phillip D’Abato, Anthony (Marjorie) D’Abato, Athena (Kevin) Doty, Michael Higgins, Ashley McDonald, Travis Moss, Zach Moss, Brooke Nelson, Dennis (Misty) McDonald, Sean (Rhianna) McDonald, Jennifer (Erick) Fronden; great, grandchildren, Abby, Olivia, Cora, and Charlee D’Abato, Sadie and Grace Doty, Staley Mae Baum-Higgins, Adin McDonald, Lyla and Hazel McDonald, and Elizabeth, Kirsten, and Ryan McDonald.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Nelson; parents.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Belknap Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
Nora’s grandchildren will be pallbearers.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Villa Marina Health Care, especially Nurses, Emily and Heidi, and all the loving CNA’s that were the backbone for our mothers care. We would also like to thank Barry from Essentia Health Hospice for the phenomenal care she received in her last weeks.
