Norma L. Fechtelkotter

Norma Leone Fechtelkotter, 88, longtime Poplar, WI resident, died peacefully in her sleep, Monday, May 7, 2018. She was born in Duluth, MN September 27, 1929, the daughter of Stener and Mabel (Ottun) Thorson.

Norma graduated from high school and went on to attend the former St. Luke’s School of Nursing and worked as a nurse for Dr. Levine’s office in Superior until she began to raise her family.

She married the love of her life, LeRoy Elmer Fechtelkotter in Superior on December 30, 1955 and the celebrated forty-nine years of marriage before his passing in 2005.

Norma and LeRoy owned and operated the family farm in Poplar. She was a dedicated homemaker and, in her spare time, she was a former Douglas County 4-H Leader and a Cub Scout leader.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her sons, Gregg Le (Amy) Fechtelkotter, Maple Grove, MN, and Paul LeRoy (Caroline) Fechtelkotter, Medfield, MA; daughters, Joan Marie Fechtelkotter, Poplar, WI, Peggy Jo (James Bittner) Fechtelkotter, Poplar, WI, and Susan Jean (Jeffrey) Johnson, Maryville, TN; brother, Donald (Joyce) Thorson, Brookfield, WI; sister-in-law, Geraldine Fechtelkotter;  nineteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; expecting one additional great-grandchild in June; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, LeRoy; and her beloved K-9 companion, Max.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 10, 2018 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 ^th Street, Superior.

Visitation will resume at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 11, 2018, at Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar, 9523 US-2, and will continue until the 12:00 PM funeral service with Pastor Donna Rutten officiating.

Burial will be in Poplar Cemetery.
