Oliver W. Heikkila

Alvar “Oliver” W. Heikkila, 98, longtime Oulu area resident, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Superior. He was born on August 21, 1918 in Oulu, WI to William A. and Lillian (Suni) Heikkila.

He owned and operated the family dairy farm in Oulu for his whole life. Oliver was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed gardening, logging and sawing lumber with his own saw mill. He built his own retirement home and sauna. He also was a do it yourself mechanic, jack of all trades guy and enjoyed working with his hands. He enjoyed gardening and his trip to Finland. Oliver was an avid sports fan and loved the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers.

Oliver is survived by four nieces, Barbara (Jerry) Tapani, Oulu, WI, Suzie (Ray) Dean, North Branch, MN, Lynn (Mike) Kastern, Spooner, WI and Kari (Troy) Amorde, South Range, WI; one nephew, Albert (Mary) Heikkila, Superior, WI and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Clarence and Arne.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to the staff at Golden Living, Superior and the Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospice Team, Duluth.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Hope Lutheran Church in Oulu, WI and continue until the 11:00 AM memorial service with Pastor Scott Stai officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Oulu, WI.
