Orville Luther Grube

January 23, 1929 — April 20, 2017

Orville Luther Grube, 88, longtime Poplar resident, died Thursday, April 20, 2017 at his home. He was born on January 23, 1929 in Hawthorne to Edward and Rachel (Shere) Grube.

He married Bernieta Bakken on September 30, 1950 in Wentworth, WI and celebrated sixty-five years of marriage before her passing in September of 2016.

Orville is survived by three sons, Orville Micheal, Orville Patrick (Carolyn) and Orville Edward Arthur (Roberta) Grube, all of Poplar, WI; five grandchildren, Rachel (Jim) Romich and Jonathan (Toni) Grube, both of Cloverland, WI, Joseph (Stephanie) Grube, Maple, WI, Gretchen (Don Rebar) Grube, Milwaukee, WI and Andrew Grube, Superior, WI; four great-grandchildren, Jillian, Jedidiah, Axel, and Maxwell.

Orville began his work career at the Poplar Cannery. He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad and also logged. He co-owned and operated Grube Transfer and Grube Trucking for many years with his wife Bernieta.

Orville was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar, WI. He enjoyed gardening, going to auctions, logging shows, stock car races, playing cards, and attending local fairs. He loved spending time with his family. He entered antiques, flowers, and vegetables from his gardens in the fair. He was known for sharing produce from his gardens with others. Orville was an avid Packers fan!

He is preceded in death by his wife Bernieta, his parents, daughter-in-law Julie Grube, and his brother and sisters.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Peace Lutheran Church, Poplar, WI and will continue until the 12:00 PM funeral service with Pastor Donna Rutten officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Cemetery, Poplar, WI.

Orville’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospice Unit in Duluth, staff for the wonderful care they offered Orville throughout his illness.

Pallbearers are: Jon Grube, Joey Grube, Jim Romich, Andy Grube, Don Rebar, Bruce Paulson, Brian Paulson, and Dennis Paulson. Honorary Pallbearers are: Bob Grubele, Calvin Paulson, Gayle Paulson, Vaughn Paulson, Jillian Romich, Jedidiah Romich, Axel Grube, and Maxwell Grube.
