Patricia Maureen (Stanton) Orville Senn (86) passed away peacefully on the morning of September 18, 2024 at Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth, MN after suffering a significant fall on August 18 th .
Pat was born on February 6, 1938 in St. Paul, MN to Charles and Edith Bannister Stanton. She was welcomed by two loving older brothers, Charles and Robert. Pat moved to Mason, WI with her parents as a young child and then to Superior, WI when she was 12, where she attended Jean Claude Academy and then Cathedral High School.
Pat was always a caregiver of family, friends and many patients in hospitals and residents in long-term care facilities. She trained to become an LPN at the Superior Technical Institute in Superior, WI right after finishing high school in 1956 and worked most of her life in the field of nursing.
Pat happily married Charles (Bud) Orville on September 20th, 1958 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Superior. They celebrated their 40th anniversary shortly before Bud's passing in 1998. Together, they raised four children, living in rural Superior (Lakeside), Bemidji, MN (where they successfully sold Miracle Maid Cookware), and then back to Superior in 1975.
After Bud's passing, Pat surprised even herself by marrying Willard Senn, a long-time friend who had recently lost his wife. This new union brought five step-daughters and a step-son into Pat's life, making her the mother of ten adult children, with ten new grandchildren! Sadly, Willard also left Pat a widow after less than a year of marriage, breaking her heart once again.
Pat continued to work (after retiring several times), always using her gifts to care for others. When she finally stopped working for a paycheck, Pat became even more active in several ministries of her church. These included the RCIA Program where she sponsored people seeking to join the Catholic church and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, mostly working with those who didn't have the security of permanent homes. Pat was honored by receiving the Jubilarian Award from St. Vincent de Paul, along with her dear friend Pat Higgins in 2022. She also traveled to Tanzania in Africa three times with members of Holy Assumption Catholic Church to serve a small village there. For many years Pat actively worked with this group to raise funds to help the villagers to have clean water, medical and school supplies.
In addition to her husbands, Pat is preceded in death by her parents; in-laws Wayne and Marian Orville; brothers and their wives (Carmella, Donna and Esther); son Charles (Chuck); cousin Helen Ryba (who was more of a sister to Pat); nieces and nephew: Carmel Stanton, Vincent Stanton and Julie Stanton; son-in-law, Patrick Harty; and step-son-in-law, Brad Barsness.
Pat is survived by daughters Marcie Orville-Romans (Dan Romans) Duluth, MN; Edie Harty (Troy Geyer) Superior, WI; Kelly Brevig (Tony) Bemidji, MN; special granddaughter, Riley Bresina, Bemidji; and Chuck's wife, Diane Orville of Duluth. She also leaves her brothers' 11 children and their extended families, as well as Helen Ryba's family and several other cousins. Survivors also include Bud's sister and brother-in-law, Myrna and Wils Bergstrom and their family; as well as Bud's dear aunt and Pat’s special friend, Kathy Lintula; and many of Bud's extended Orville and Lintula family members.
Additionally, Pat is survived by her devoted stepchildren, Deb Peaslee (Chris), Weston, WI; Judy Ford, Virginia, MN; Anna Sandnas (Peter), Virginia, MN; Patti Clemmer (Guy), Lake Nebagamon, WI; Bob Senn (Amy), Virginia, MN; and Nancy Mattonen (Alan), Virginia, MN. This family also includes Pat’s sister-in-law, Sharon Muttonen (Robert), as well as 11 step-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great grandchildren.
Should friends desire, memorials can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1416 Cumming Avenue, Superior, WI 54880 or Cathedral School, 1419 Baxter Avenue, Superior, WI 54880. Special thanks to all who helped to care for Pat during the last few years!
