Paul Marvin Hakkila

Paul Marvin Hakkila, 89, died peacefully, Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Essentia Health Medical Center in Duluth, MN. He was born at home in Maple, WI on June 26, 1932, the son of Toivo and Hannah (Salonen) Hakkila.

A lifelong area resident, Paul attended school in the Northwestern school district and was a graduate of the first graduating class in 1950. He joined the United States Navy during the Korean War and was stationed in San Diego, Kwajalein, and Pearl Harbor, HI. He was united in marriage to Elsie M. Viinikka on December 28, 1953, who passed away November 9, 1993. He married Delores M. Ukkola on October 12, 1996.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Maple, WI, where he also served on the Board and volunteered to usher and read. He was also a Co-op Board member. He loved to travel and went to many countries and states in the United States also. He was an accomplished artist and loved doing oil paintings.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Toivo and Hannah; his first wife, Elsie; his two brothers, Toivo and Ray; and four sisters, Erma, Violet, Frances and Aune.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; his son, Howard Hakkila; daughter, Barbara (Hakkila) Trempe; and son Neil (Stephanie) Hakkila; his step children, Laura Ukkola, Gregory (Rhonda) Ukkola, and Julie (David) Durbin; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Thank you to the Dialysis Unit at Spirit Valley, Duluth, MN and Davida in Harlingen, TX. Also, the nurses and care givers at Essentia Health Medical Center.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM, Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Faith Lutheran Church, 4641 County Highway F, Maple, WI and will continue until the 1:30 PM Funeral Service with Pastor John Hecht Knierim officiating.

Burial will be in Faith Lutheran Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Bong-Hofstedt Post #409 Honor Guard.
