Paul M. Osterlund

Paul M. Osterlund, 68, longtime Superior resident, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born on November 22, 1948 in Superior, WI to Hartley and Ruby (Brave) Osterlund.

Paul was employed as a construction worker for Badger Builders for many years. He previously worked at the Superior Sewer Service and the Superior School District. He also was a Great Lakes seaman and volunteer firefighter.

He married Kimberly Gondik on September 9, 1989 in Foxboro, WI and they celebrated twenty-seven years of marriage. Paul was a talented woodworker and chef. He enjoyed playing the drums, fishing, storm chasing and especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Paul will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, patience and acceptance. He was kind hearted and had a gentle way, artistically talented, intelligent, stoic, very thoughtful and will be sadly missed by all.

Paul is survived by his wife, Kim; two sons, Matthew (Amber) Osterlund, Superior, WI and Timothy (Sarah) Osterlund, Apple Valley, MN; two daughters, Mary Osterlund, Moorhead, MN and Jenna Osterlund, Superior, WI; four grandchildren, Anthony, Aaron, Hannah and Olivia; four sisters, Ruth Norman, Duluth, MN, Lois Colborn, Superior, WI, Priscilla (Ron) Saari, St. Paul, MN and Mary (Doug) Sorenson, Superior, WI; four brothers, David Osterlund, SC, Jim Osterlund, MS, Dan (Joanne) Osterlund, South Range, WI and Mark (Brenda) Osterlund, Superior, WI several nieces and nephews, and his good friend, Byron Card, Foxboro, WI.

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Melissa Munson in 2004 and his father-in-law, Richard Gondik, Sr. in 2017.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior and continue until the 12:00 PM funeral service with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church officiating.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Superior.

Pallbearers for the service will be Byron Card, Jon Oltmanns, Rick Gondik, Jr., Terry Gondik, Dan Larson and Jared Osterlund.

Honorary Pallbearers for the service will be Paul's four brothers.
