Penelope Jane Oleyar

Penelope “Penny” Jane Oleyar (75), long time Superior resident, died Friday, November 10, 2023 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Superior. She was born on June 22, 1948, the daughter of Frank and Viola (Heikura) Gran.

Penny graduated from Moose Lake High School, class of 1966. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in history at UMD. On October 17, 1970, she married Jerome “Jerry” Oleyar. They celebrated 53 years together.

She was employed as a pharmacy technician at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Billings Park, then moved on to Dubester’s Drug in downtown Superior. Penny furthered her education in the secretarial field at WITC. She retired from United Way where she worked as secretary for many years.

Penny loved to bowl and play golf with friends and family. She enjoyed listening to Country music and ‘50s and ‘60s rock ‘n’ roll. Working crossword puzzles kept her mind sharp. She will be missed by many.

Penny is survived by her husband, Jerome Oleyar; sister Renee (Richard) Klejeski; uncle Dennis (Rita) Heikura; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Gerald and Larry Gran.

Visitation for Penny begins at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue in Superior, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM with Gary Banker officiating.
