Philip D. Hoberg

Philip D. Hoberg, 40, formerly of Superior, WI, most recently of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away on May 21, 2022. He was born in Duluth, MN on January 17, 1982, the son of Donald and Denise (Larson) Hoberg.

Philip graduated from Superior Senior High School, class of 2000, and went on to Earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, earning the highest honors and distinction in brain, behavior, and cognitive science.

He went on to further his education and earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Oxford Business School (UK) in 2016. Philip was also studying for his Master’s in cybersecurity and a law degree at his alma mater, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he also taught classes as an adjunct professor

Philip was an accomplished entrepreneur, skilled in marketing and advertising sales, social media, product development, marketing strategy, start-ups, market research, data analysis, project management, communications, and other strategic business industries.

Philip was a part of dozens of startup businesses and successfully grew several of them from incubators into thriving companies. He also spoke at many symposiums on business strategies during his time in Michigan, Oxford, and around Europe.

Philip also was an avid pilot with many hours on his private pilot’s license.

Philip’s interests included traveling, hunting, fishing, hiking, motorcycles, photography, and anything outdoors. Philip was an animal lover who rescued/fostered several animals over the years. His Maine Coon cat “Silencio” traveled the world with him through his work and studies and is now in his 20s. Philip also loved reading, writing, making music and videos, photography, and anything artistic with technology.

He is survived by his mother, Denise Johnson and her husband Scott, who was Philip’s second father, of Superior, WI; siblings, Jeffrey (Amanda) Hoberg, Tarpon Springs, FL, Christine Hoberg, Minneapolis, MN, Hayley (Blake Janowicz) Johnson, Superior, WI, Liam Johnson, Superior, WI, nephews; Donald, Scott, Gordon, Woodrow, Jack, Liam II, and two additional expectant nephews arriving soon, additionally his grandparents; Richard and Catherine Johnson.

He was preceded by his father, Donald Hoberg, and grandparents, Dwaine and Kathleen Hoberg, Richard Larson, Dale Anne and Gordon Bolander.

Most remember Philip for his deep intellectual conversations, and legendary acts of comedy. Above all, Philip was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be dearly missed.
