Phyllis Ellis, 83, Superior resident, died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior.
She was born on September 1, 1931 in Redwood Falls, MN to Benjamin and Eva (Loban) Pelz.
She received her Master Degree in Education from University of Wisconsin-Superior. Phyllis was an elementary school teacher for the Superior School District for many years retiring in 1991.
She was a member of P.E.O and a former member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school. She was an active member of school and civic organizations in Superior.
After her retirement from teaching, she enjoyed time in Arizona with her family and friends. The following quote represents her feelings about her time as a teacher “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I live in, or the kind of car I drove… But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”
Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Sandy (Kim) Thompson, Lake Nebagamon, WI and Kathryn Ellis, Superior, WI; one son, Thomas (Maureen) Ellis, Whitefish Bay, WI; six grandchildren, Tanner, Holly and Kelsey Thompson, Lann and Ben Ellis and Chandra DeBeir; two sisters, Lois Boschert, Blaine, MN and Dorothy Uhlenkamp, Redwood Falls, MN and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert on March 25, 2004, sisters Delores, Ruth and Viola and brothers Harold and Howard.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior.
A private family service will take place at a later date.
