Raymond D. Deleary 87, longtime Douglas County resident, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born in Alderborough, Ontario on February 11, 1931, the son of Kenneth and Lillian (Halfday) Deleary.
Raymond retired after many years with Zenith Dredge Company as a Mariner Great Lakes Seaman. He was a member of the Seafarers Union; he was also a member of Three Fires Mide Lodge. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Although Raymond was an avid fan of golf, he enjoyed puzzles, bird watching, was a classical guitarist and was a skilled artisan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family! He married Willoree Edwards on February 14, 1988 in Michigan and they recently had celebrated thirty years of marriage.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Willoree; one daughter, Marisa “Jackie” (Lorenzo) Alfaro, Flint, Michigan; two sons, Nicholas R. Deleary, Chippewa of the Thames First Nation and Dr. Geoffrey (Carrie) Deleary, Hickory, North Carolina; four step daughters, Glenda (John Turner) Gibson, Teresa (Tom) Lefler, Connie Gibson, and Kim (John) Maynard; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, his former wife and mother of his children, Mary (Maria) Deleary.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5 th Street, Superior and continue until the 2:00 pm Funeral Service with Pastor John Maynard officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery following the service.
