Raymond "Swede" Johnson, died peacefully on June 30. Ray was born on September 2, 1937 in Triump, MN to Martin and Margurete Johnson.
He spent his early years on the family farm and quit school in the 8th grade to help out. He later became a skilled mason and was known to be a master at his trade. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling to Vegas and listening to his friends playing music.
He was a fan of the Vikings, Twins and Timberwolves. He was always so proud of his family and never placed judgment on anyone. We will never forget his special grin and how he could use it to get his own way, along with his twinkling blue eyes.
Ray was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Wanda; his brother Vince; his sister Adeline, his twin siblings David and Dorothy and his parents.
Ray will be dearly missed by this thirty year companion, Joni Stewart; her children and grandchildren; his daughters, Cheryl (Arch) Hager, Wendy (Paul) Bontems, Connie North; his son Kevin (Wendy) Johnson, along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings, Jan, Tom, Marge, Cathy and Marty and their spouses, his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too many to list.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM Memorial Service on Thursday, July 9, 2009 in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 410 Arlington Ave., Duluth, with Pastor Michael DeKraii, officiating.
The family expresses deep gratitude to the staff at Bayshore Health Care Center for their excellent care of Ray.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Ray's family.
