Raymond ”Red” Anton Michalski, 83, of Superior died peacefully on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Solvay Hospice House with his family by his side.
He was born September 1, 1927 in Superior to Valeria (Zawadski) and Anton Michalski.
He was employed by the Soo Line Railroad for forty-two years, retiring as roundhouse foreman and also served in the U.S. Navy.
Raymond married Veronica Dostal on May 21, 1955 in Haugen, WI.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Veronica, one sister, Florence Steffan, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, James and Marie Moravec, Charles and Martha Dostal, Norbert and Dorothy Dostal, Joseph Brockman and Matthew Kayfes.
Raymond is survived by seven children, Michael (Carrie Ann) Michalski, Solon Springs, WI; Anthony (Joyce) Michalski, Welch, MN; Richard (JoLynn) Michalski, Hastings, MN; Mary (Ron) Cairns, Lake Nebagamon, WI; Valerie (Phil DeBruyne) Stariha, Superior; Paul (Teri) Michalski, Severna Park, MD; Joseph (Donna) Michalski, Champlin, MN; one sister, Adrianne Kayfes; brother-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, Peter Steffan, Rita Dostal; Joseph and Francis Willger; Joseph and Shirley Dostal, Leona and James Didier, Regina Brockman and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 28, 2011 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and continue until the 11:00 AM, Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Father James Tobolski as celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior with Military Honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
Pallbearers for the service will be his grandchildren.
Raymond’s family would like to thank especially Tracy, Lorna, Mary, Angie and Jan, of Helping Hands, the St. Mary’s Hospice Staff and the Solvay Hospice House staff for the love and care they provided.
