Raymond Woods

Raymond L. Woods, 84, brief Superior resident, former longtime resident of El Cajon, CA, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011 in Essentia Health/St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, MN.

He was born on August 15, 1927 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas to George and Bertha (Rhaines) Woods.

Ray served in the United States Army during World War II.

He married Opal Peterson on December 7, 1947 in El Cajon, CA and would have celebrated sixty-four years of marriage in December.

Ray was employed with the City of La Mesa, CA for many years as a heavey equipment operator.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and a fifty-four year member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in El Cajon. He enjoyed bowling and bowled several three-hundred games.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed shooting pool.

The center of Ray’s life was the devotion to his wife and family.

In addition to his wife Opal, Ray is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Gary) Muench, Santee, CA, Michelle (Steve) Moden, Superior, Sharon Leonard, El Cajon, CA; three sons, David Woods, Superior, Steven Woods, Inglewood, CO, Michael Woods, Superior; ten grandchildren, Julie, Josh, Michael, Bryan, Dustin, Taylor, Gage, Montana, Maverick and Spencer and four great-grandchildren, Jack, Logan, Lucy and Sam.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Cory Woods and Nicole Banks; two brothers, Donald and Leslie Woods and an infant sister, Ethel Mae.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM until the 3:00 PM Memorial Mass on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James Tobolski will be celebrant.

Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ray’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Essentia Health/St. Mary’s Hospice Care, for their wonderful care during his stay.
