Rhoda R. Marthe, 82, Superior, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

She was born on November 24, 1931 in Minot, ND to Edward and Hazel (Broderick) Lienhart. Rhoda graduated from Valley City State College with a Teacher’s Normal Degree. She taught at a rural school near Karlsruhe, ND prior to her marriage to Kasmer Marthe on September 27, 1952.

Her husband was an agent for Great Northern Railroad so they lived in various North Dakota and Montana communities creating good friends for life. Their last move was to Superior where they raised their four children and were members of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Other interests included playing and teaching bridge for over forty years; participating in online Scrabble games with multiple gamers at the same time; avid reading; doing crossword puzzles and traveling.
Rhoda appreciated her collection of antique green glass, the tradition of card playing with family and her bridge club members.

She is survived by three daughters, Renee (Byron Grytdahl) Marthe, Duluth, Bobbie (Jim) James, Superior, Roxanne (Randy) Kille, Tomball, TX; five grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan and Dustin James, Dalton and Paige Kille; five great-grandchildren, Landon, Mannix, Estelle, Quinn and Maddyn James; her brother, Jim (Barb Serr) Lienhart, Bismarck, ND; her sister, Patricia (Rod) Boser, Pierz, MN and many nieces and nephews.

Rhoda was preceded in death by her husband Kas; her son, David and her parents.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Superior.

Burial will be in North Dakota at a later date.
