Richard L. Coda

November 11, 1942 — September 21, 2015

Richard L. “Dick” Coda, 72, longtime Maple resident, passed away Monday, September 21, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, Minnesota.

He was born on November 11, 1942 in Superior to Lawrence F. and Amelia (Novozinski) Coda.


Dick graduated from the former East High School and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from UWS.


On January 11, 1964 he married the love of his life, Judith A. LaJoie and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage.


Dick was the owner and operator of DJ & J Supply in Maple for 30 years.


He attended Mission Covenant Church in Poplar, WI. Dick was a Master Gardener and was a member of the Lake Superior Master Gardeners Association as well as the Lake Superior Rose Society.

Dick loved the outdoors and was an avid trapper, fisherman and hunter; he loved sharing his passion and knowledge with his grandchildren. Dick was a member of the National Trappers Association and the Wisconsin Trappers Association.

In 2013 the State of South Carolina passed a Senate Resolution to honor and recognize Dick for his contributions as a trapper in Lauren’s County.


Dick enjoyed volunteering and would often be found at the Fairlawn Museum, the Solid Rock Mission, the Leif Erickson Rose Garden in Duluth and the Boys and Girls Club of America.


In addition to his wife Judy, Dick is survived by three daughters, Wendy (Brian) Stauty, Poplar, Renee (Jim) King, Maple, Tracy (Dennis) Paquette, Baldwin, WI; one son, Joseph “Joe” (Tracy) Coda, Osceola, IN; 15 grandchildren, Adam, Emily, Cole, Bailey, Benjamin, Alexa, Joe, Katlin, Valerie, Jamie, Phil, Lora, Dillon, Michela and Jordan; six great-grandchildren ; one sister, Rosann (Ken) Larkin, Hudson, WI and nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents.


Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5 th Street, Superior.

Visitation will continue at 3:30 PM on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Mission Covenant Church, Poplar, Wisconsin until the 5:00 PM Memorial Service with Pastor Darrell Nelson, officiating.
