Richard “Dick” M. Tyson, 84, Superior resident, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN from a very rare kind of leukemia. He was born on February 16, 1935 in Superior, WI to Albert and Beatrice (Silver) Tyson.
He graduated from Central High School in Superior. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy on the DDE 499 Renshaw during the Korean conflict. He was employed as a millwright for ADM grain elevators for many years. Dick married the love of his life, Carole Lidberg on October 3, 1959 and would have celebrated sixty years of marriage this year.
He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and faithfully watched their games. He loved spending time outdoors like fishing especially on the Brule River. He also liked biking with Carole and working in his garden. He also enjoyed having coffee with his friends. Dick loved spending time with his family especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dick was great with children and they loved him dearly.
Dick is survived by his wife, Carole; three sons, Mark (Jan) Tyson, Rosemount, MN, John (Barb) Tyson, Proctor, MN and Paul (Kim) Tyson, Superior, WI; five grandchildren, Travis (Ashley), Laurie and Steven Tyson, all of Rosemont, MN, Rachael and Rebekah Tyson, both of Proctor, MN; three great-grandchildren, Malaina, Garrett Thomas and Braylee Tyson; one brother, Gerald “Peanuts” Tyson and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Jean Farone and Nancy Hillbeck and four brothers Robert, William, James and Denny Tyson.
Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 th Street, Superior and continue until the 1:00 PM memorial service. Military Honors will be accorded by Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard following the service at the funeral home.
