Richard S. Gondik, Sr., 76, lifelong Superior resident, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 in his home. He was born on August 4, 1940 in Superior, WI to Steven and Betty (Card) Gondik.
Richard graduated from Superior East High School in 1958. He was employed as a taconite sampler for Lerch Brothers in Superior for over twenty years retiring in December of 1987.
Richard married Janet Gunski on December 22, 1972 in Superior and they recently celebrated forty-four years of marriage.
He enjoyed duck and deer hunting, fishing on Lake Superior and working in the yard. He loved going to his hunting shack at the Moose. Most of all he loved his family.
Richard is survived by his wife, Janet; five children, Roxanne (Joe) Blackwell, Duluth, MN, Rick Gondik, Jr., Foxboro, WI, Ricky Simensen, Duluth, MN, Kim (Paul) Osterlund and Terry (Melissa) Gondik, both of Superior, WI and his “4th son”, Jim (Valerie) Van Landschoot, Superior, WI; his siblings, Nancy Gondik, Superior, WI, Sandra Anderson, Milwaukee, WI and David Gondik, South Range, WI; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Danielle, Derek, Garrett, Jacob, Jenna, Chad and Heidi and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, great-grandson James Kauther and sister Patricia McDowell.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 23, 2017 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor Duane Aslyn officiating.
