Richard D. Hoffman

September 22, 1952 — July 10, 2025

Richard D. Hoffman, 72, of Superior, WI passed away on July 10, 2025 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. He was born on September 22, 1952, the son of Wilfred and Ellen (Qually) Hoffman in Park Rapids, MN.

On April 21, 1990 Dick married the love of his life, Gail Galliford, and celebrated 32 years of marriage before her passing on February 13, 2023. Dick was remembered as a kind and compassionate husband, devotedly caring for his wife with love and tenderness throughout her illness.

Dick took immense pride in his 40-year career choice as a Union carpenter and enjoyed pointing out all of the bridges and buildings that he helped build throughout Duluth and Superior. In addition, for 25 years his wife and he worked as a team in their house rental business.

Throughout Dick’s life he kept active playing softball, golf and pool. He shared these talents by joining many different leagues. He also enjoyed his daily Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Nothing could get in the way of his Thursday’s, as this was the day that he hosted the weekly poker games with his friends. Even though he lived with a devoted Packer fan (his wife) in Wisconsin, his heart still belonged to the Minnesota Vikings. Later in life he found his hidden artistic talent for drawing and nicknamed his art room “Dick van Gogh’s Art Studio”. Clear Water Resort was Dick’s favorite summer retreat for over 20 years where he enjoyed camping and golfing with his many friends. Dick’s loyalty to those he loved was unwavering in the lives of both family and friends.

Richard is survived by his brother Douglas (Nancy) Hoffman, Barnum, MN; sister Shirley Adamic, Barnum, MN and several loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail; parents, Wilfred and Ellen Hoffman; brother Bill Hoffman; brothers-in-law: John Adamic, Gary Galliford and Guy Galliford; and faithful canine companion, Lucy.

A Celebration of Life for Dick is planned for Monday, July 28 at Salem Mahtowa Hall, 2706 1st Street, Barnum, MN. Visitation and refreshments from 1:00 – 2:00 pm with Memorial Service at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at Barnum Riverside Cemetery.
